This course is designed to provide students with artistic, creative and historical background in the fields of video, broadcasting, and film production. We also provide instruction and training in pre-production, production and post production phases of project development.  Also covered are relationships between cost, quality, and time constraints for projects, as well as recent developments in the industry process.

In this course students will gain skills in one or more of the following areas: page design, advanced publishing techniques, copy writing, editing and photography while producing a creative, innovative yearbook which records school memories and events.  Students will gain useful, real world skills in photography, print design, graphic design, time management, marketing, teamwork, and design principles.

An examination of the digital tools used in the visual arts. Students are exposed to the theory and function of the major software packages and basic digital design principles utilized in the visual arts.  Production of printed material from original copy and digital files.  Also covered are relationships between cost, quality, and time constraints for printed materials, as well as recent developments in digital and print process.

Broadcast Media I

This course explores emerging media platforms for journalism.  It is designed to provide students with the skills needed to produce and distribute powerful stories for broadcast, online and traditional media.   Also covered are relationships between cost, quality, and time constraints for printed materials, as well as recent developments in digital and print process.  Students learn skills like anchoring, dslr videography and editing.

Arts & Communications Capstone
(TAK2990D, TAK2290V, TAK2990N, TAK2990Y)

A Capstone Project reflects the culmination of knowledge, skills, and attitudes by senior students in the Arts and Communications Technology Career Pathway. This senior project provides a venue for seniors to plan and execute individualized study on a topic of particular interest to them. Participants will have their independent study and research periodically assessed by the instructor. Students are to enlist the guidance of an adult mentor from the school or community.

In order to receive the CTE Recognition Honors students must complete the pathway of choice (Core, DMED and Capstone) and pass the Performance Based Assessment.

Newswriting I & II

This course introduces tomorrow’s journalists to the fundamentals of covering and writing news. Mastering these skills is no simple task. In an Internet age of instantaneous access, demand for high-quality accounts of fast-breaking news has never been greater. Nor has the temptation to cut corners and deliver something less.

Photography

This is an introductory course on photography. Basic techniques taught are composition, exposure, lighting, camera care and operation, film processing, contact printing, enlarging and print mounting either through traditional photographic techniques or through digital media.​

Entrepreneurship

Entrepreneurship introduces students to the process of recognizing opportunities and planning for the establishment of a small business. Concepts introduced will be applied and practiced. Community mentors in related fields will assist students as they implement their chosen enterprises.
